Electroless Nickel and Immersion Gold Plating of Brass

I am plating low lead brass with electroless nickel followed by Immersion gold. The product is a small cylindrical part with a blind hole, a pin is placed in the hole and the part crimped to hold the pin. The problem has been that we encounter gold flaking from the nickel at the pin end that is crimped.

I am trying an 20% HCl dip prior to the gold to see if this improves. The product following plating is baked at 450F.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
