Removing paint from historical wrought iron

2003

I have a historical architectural piece of iron work that was created by Samuel Yellin. It is a piece of a very ornate room divider that was used in the JP Morgan Library Annex in New York City. The screen is 6'x8' and is two sided. It consists of twelve 2'x2' panels that include birds, flowers and decorative scroll work that is all hand wrought. The problem I have is that it was previously painted and I want to restore it to its original condition without damaging any of the makers mark or original mill scale. What do you suggest? There are many small cracks and crevices that add to the difficulty. samuel yellon iron work Mike Rogers

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
