-----What Plating Finish Should Be Used on Outdoor Brackets?
2002
What is the best plating option for a CRS stamped mounting bracket set that would be used on outdoor applications. Durability, corrosion resistance, and costs are important. I've been told several different options: Zinc plate ATSM ASTM B633 SC4, Hot-dip Galvanizing ASTM A123, and Nickel plating.
Anyone have any suggestions.

Paint on top of a properly phosphatized surface is cheaper than plating or galvanizing and offers better salt spray resistance. Galvanizing will be more expensive than zinc plating because it will be significantly thicker; for that reason it will outperform plating. In general, nickel plating is not the answer for outdoor exposure unless aesthetic requirements dictate.
