Q1)IS THERE A MATERIAL WHICH MAY BE USED IN THE REPRODUCTION INDUSTRY THAT SERVES THIS PURPOSE OTHER THAN THE STANDARD ENGRAVERS PLATE OR..

If you want an antique look, you might want to look into a small mass finishing system using a dry organic media with an abrasive additive.

Contact any wood finishing trade suppliers for a product called Tourmaline.

It does exactly what you require with low tech needed. the only important feature is total grease free operation - including finger prints. Use with hot water for best results.
