Annealed copper stiffened by nickel plating

It was recently suggested to me that nickel plating a structural copper tube may help stiffen it. Is this true and how effective would it be?

It could be true. Most of the time plated nickel is around 250-300 Hardness Vickers against annealed copper which is only 100-150HV. Also it depends on relative thicknesses. Obviously 10 microns of plated nickel will not do anything to a 6mm thick wall tube.
