-----Anode-cathode reactions to form A1203 coating
2002
Could you please tell me the anode-cathode reactions that occur in the anodising of aluminium to form the Al2O3 coating?
Thank you,
David Bowker- Melbourne, Australia
The cathode reaction doesn't have too much to do with the coating properties. The anode reaction is the release of oxygen which combines with the aluminum substrate to form Al2O3. But there is more to it than the cathode reaction; there is the chemical reaction of the acid solution dissolving the aluminum too.
