Surface Treatment of Titanium Without Fatigue Penalty

We are thinking of making some titanium studs from 6Al-4V, and would like to apply some form of surface treatment to prevent galling. These studs are very highly stressed, so ideally the surface treatment shouldn't cause a loss in fatigue strength. What treatments are suitable for this?

First of two simultaneous responses --

Something lubrious and softer than your substrate, I guess. Could it be mechanical plating of cadmium? Worth investigating if possible and affordable. Beware of hydrogen pick up in electroplating procedures.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Sound like a titanium anodize process per AMS 2488 Type II. It is compressively stressed and lubrous. In the states only a handful of shops do it.
