Non-Cyanide Silver Stripper

I am required to get rid of cyanide in my plating shop. Although I can't entirely, it would be very helpful to find a non-cyanide silver stripper. Is there such a thing and if so, what is the makeup/use? I need this answer as soon as possible.

Jeanne,

Yes, there are non-cyanide strips for silver. For Stainless Steel, Titanium, Aluminum, and Nickel Base Alloys try a 50% nitric solution, room temperature, no current. For regular carbon steel, we are using a non-cyanide commercial product. I cannot state the vendor's name or the product name, but I can tell you it is an effective alkaline, electrolytic strip.

Good luck,

Mary

PS: We have completely eliminated cyanide in our 212 tank, 14 line, plating/stripping shop, its very possible...

Re: Non-Cyanide silver strip.

Technic supplies a non-cyanide silver strip for use of back stripping semiconductor packages.

However this process is electrolytic. Prior to stripping it is non-toxic & non hazardous. It is a derivative of lactic acid.
