Detachment Nickel / Gold layers

2002

I observed a detachment of plated nickel on gold layer. The manufacturer of the relevant component said that is related to the smoothness of the gold layer. Is someone know the true?

Thank you in advance.

Generally this is due to a passive or "unclean" nickel surface prior to gold plating, possibly from inadequate or prolonged rinsing after nickel. Check the underside of the peeled gold. If there is nickel on the backside, he tried to replate the nickel but was sloppy.
