Green passivation

2002

What is the chemical used for green passivation zinc plating and is it hard enough to remove (wear) steel material?

In one of our parts we found that the green passivated components (EN1A) removed material from the mating part, which is made out of cold drawn electric welded material whereas the yellow passivated components had no such problems. This was noticed when trails ware conducted for change over form Yellow passivation to green passivation.

As I had mentioned in letter 12291, I had never heard of 'green' chromate except referring to 'olive drab' chromate. But some of the responders explain in detail what the term means in other parts of the world, and it may answer your question.
