-----Removal of brass/gold finish
I am in the process of remodeling an old house and plan to decorate with antiques and antique looking light fixtures. I have purchase a new light fixture which has a shiny brass finish and would like for it to have a copper finish to match my kitchen. Is there a way that I can do this myself or should I just shop for a copper fixture and take the brass one back to the store ?

Shop for what you need, Ms. Hockenberry. It is quite expensive to refinish items like this on a one-at-a-time basis compared to the initial cost when thousands were processed simultaneously. But that's not all. It's one thing to want to patinize an old brass fixture that you know to be brass; but new fixtures may not be brass at all--they may be nickel plated then brass-tinted by means of a translucent lacquer.
