Acceptable reject rates

What is an reasonable acceptable standard reject rate for inexpensive items (@$2.00) costing about $.60/ea to powder coat? These parts are done by my powder coater about 5,000 per week.

I would have to say 1% to be more than sufficient. But it all really depends on the formation of your part. I have had some powder coating work done myself and because of the complexity of the design and the various elements involved I had to accept around 10-20% rework on the parts. It was just the nature of the beast so to speak. It also depends on what you are trying to do with the powder as to what level of acceptance you will take. I personally wanted 100% finish quaity, no bubbles, no runs, drips, anything of the sort, no build-up. It had to be perfect in order to fit the very tight tolerances that the parts were to adhere to. So if your part is a simple configuration I would say 1% would be reasonable. If its complex or has a lot of pockets and areas that make the part harder to powdercoat, be prepared to accept a higher rate of reject.
