How can you monitor or measure amount of chrome in water
We are running a water chrome mixture from a hot chrome bath through a cooling tower to make sure it doesn't get overheated. We want to make sure no chrome leaks into the cooling tower water. Is there a way I can monitor or measure if any chrome leaks into the cooling tower water. Is there any way I could measure the amount of chrome in cooling water that may have already leaked in.

A conductivity monitor is probably the most practical way to go. Chromic acid is highly conductive, pure water is not. As for looking for a past leak before you start, chromic acid has a nice thing going for it in that it is very visible. You'd very easily see it as a yellow to amber tint even down in the couple of ppm range.

Best bet for the expected concentrations of Cr would be EPA 200.7, metals by ICP-AES.
