Plastic chrome plating

I'm trying to get a chrome finish on some parts of my car. I heard of some chrome plating applied to plastics but how about on something like a steel panel like a fender.

Most truck bumpers (and old car bumpers) are steel. There is no particular difficulty in chrome plating steel except that it must be well polished before plating.
