My client is looking for information on the Australian Specification or Standard entitled AS-1231-1985.

As you can see, the standard has been revised and re-released. It is based on the British Standard BS1615 however it is not the same as the BS.
I suggest you obtain a copy via their web site on https://committee.standards.com.au/

A quick search on Google for "Australian Standards" got me to a site (www.standards.com.au/catalogue/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS539065883337) where I found "AS 1231-2000 Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Anodic oxidation coatings"
Looks like a spec for anodizing. The "1985" was the revision year, and the street version has a 2000 date. To get the 1985 version will likely require contact (phone, e-mail) with them.
