Need major help on a science fair project!

Hi,

I have a problem, see I have to do a science fair project and I mean I have to. My topic is What kind of juice cleans pennies better? I already know that it is the acid in the juice. But every place I go to find out why they don't know why or I just can't find it. So why does acid in juices clean pennies at all? How does it work, explain! I really need help!
