-----Is zinc electroplating okay for objects embedded in concrete?
I have a customer that wants information whether zinc electroplating is an accepted process and has good service life, for threaded inserts in precast concrete. Are there any articles supporting this? Any good pro electroplating articles?
Roger P [surname deleted for privacy by Editor]Hi Roger. It's certainly not as good as stainless steel or hot-dip galvanizing, Roger. Probably 95 percent of all steel hardware is zinc plated, but it's service life is very limited except in pretty benign environments. Embedding it in concrete doesn't sound benign and there are a few threads on this site where people had trouble in similar applications.
Please see our recommended plating books for good articles about electroplating.
