Paint thickness measurement on clear plastic

I am painting clear plastic parts with waterbourn paints. I would like to know the best and fastest way to measure paint thickness on clear plastic.

We have sold hand held thickness testers in the past for this application. However, it will require you to secure a Steel foil (at least 12 mil thick) over the plastic sample you are coating with paint. Then you remove the test strip after spraying the coating, cure and measure with the hand held gage.
