Spec Zinc Coating ASTM A153

I am trying to find the spec for zinc coating ASTM A153 , Grade 'C'. My customer is needing this process on .688 hex part.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Bonnie Troxel
- Tilton, Illinois

Hello Bonnie!

ASTM A153 , "Standard Specification for Zinc Coating (Hot-Dip) on Iron and Steel Hardware", is available from the American Society for Testing and Materials (www.asminternational.org). This three page specification is found in ASTM Volume 01.06. The website gives more information.

There is no "Grade C" listed, but there is a "Class C", referring to coating thickness. Class C calls out 1 ounce per square foot thickness, which translates to about 1.7 mils. The specification further covers the quality of zinc used, the sampling procedure, and test methods.

Good luck!

Hello Bonnie,

I have the same problem. Our customer requires ASTM A153 and additional ASTM B117 and ASTM B487. Did you find anything. For me in Germany it is not easy to get all these American specifications.

Thank you in advance.

Ed. note: We've linked these specs to a commercial source from which you can get them, Uwe.
