Do you mean Dacromet?, this is a mechanically applied zinc, trademark of DACRAL SA, in France; they probably have licensees in the USA, they will supply plant etc to set your own line up. However, Macdermid is also pretty heavily into mechanical zinc, they may be able to suggest alternatives.

I am responsible for Marketing DACROMET at DACRAL S.A. in France. I would like to add that DACROMET has some characteristics near to mechanical plating indeed, like no risk of hydrogen embrittlement for high strength steel fasteners or components for instance, and of course, it is a coating providing cathodic protection to steel. However, it is a dip-spin or spray process, with sub-sequent drying and curing at 300 C.

DACROMET is available in Europe, in North America, in Far East and there are more than 200 industrial DACROTIZING installations running in the world.

I AM looking for a comparison between a galvanized deck screw and a dacrotized drywall screw. Are they interchangeable?

Thank You

Joe Esmerado

Because I am currently building a small deck, I was wondering pretty much the same thing myself, Joe. The screws look to have the same diameter and length, same head, and same long pitch. As long as we're talking personal use, rather than a big development, I don't see any reason to worry too much over it. But if you can afford it, stainless steel deck screws are less than 10 cents each, and probably are the best idea.
