Drying System for Nickel Chrome Plating: Smart, Practical Help

Summary for drying system for nickel chrome plating Discussion

drying system for nickel chrome plating plant: Steve Sudlow asked for a decent dryer for a manual shop doing gold, nickel, and chrome on base metals including stainless, diecast, and plastic, with a target of about 120 jigs per hour. The replies focused on simple box-style drying rather than expensive equipment. One answer said that if steam or hot water is available, a workable rack dryer can be built, but the recirculation fan should not be skimped on; the goal is to blow water off with warm air, not to dry it with radiant heat. James Watts added that if parts come from a warm or hot rinse tank, excess air from a regenerative blower can be used in a drying box at very low cost, and if no blower is available, a good used one may be worth buying because the intake is filtered and oil-free. The thread favors practical airflow-based drying over heat-only approaches.

Q. Can anybody help in our search for a decent drying system?

We run a manual shop producing gold, nickel & chrome on all types of base metals inc stainless, diecast, plastic.

The dryer will need to cope with about 120 jigs per hour.

A. If you have steam or hot water available, there should be no difficulty in building a workable box-type dryer for racks of plated work. The secret is to not to get cheap on the recirc fan. You want to blow the water off with warm AIR, not dry it on with radiant heat.

A. If you come out of a warm/hot rinse tank, you can rig a system that uses excess air from your regenerative blower in a drying box setup at very little cost.If you do not have a regenerative blower, consider getting a good used one. The intake is filtered and it is oil free.
