Summary for cadmium regulations Discussion
Future/upcoming cadmium regulations are the focus of this thread, with Gus Vallejo asking for domestic and EU laws, bills, or executive orders that limit cadmium use or require reduction schedules, and whether European hex chrome reduction rules also reference cadmium or other metal platings. The answer from the unnamed respondent says that in the U.S. the relevant material to look for is the special medical monitoring and related rules for shops doing cadmium plating. For the EU, the respondent states that cadmium was banned years ago, with exceptions, and notes that cadmium is a RoHS-listed material. The reply does not identify any direct link between European hex chrome reduction regulations and cadmium, but suggests that a careful search of the site should uncover more information.
I am researching laws/bills/executive orders/etc. that are either current or are being investigated and that impose a limit or a reduction schedule for Cadmium use. I am looking for domestic and EU regulations. Do the regs mandating hex chrome reduction in Europe include or reference Cd or other metal platings?

A. Hi, Gus.
In the U.S. you can look at the special medical monitoring, etc. rules for shops doing cadmium plating. In the EU, cadmium was banned (with exceptions) years ago; yes, cadmium is a RoHS listed material. Patiently search this site and I think you’ll find some info.

A. Look at RoHS legislation, 2002/95/EC or from Jan 2013 2011/65/EU, Annex 2 and Annex 3, 8(a). REACH legislation for chemicals gives SVHC updated every 6 months.
