What happens when you mix copper wire and silver nitrate? Why?

I am doing a thing is science class and we have to figure out what happens when you mix silver nitrate [on eBay or Amazon] and copper wire and why well I know what happens but I need to know why.

Tell us what you saw happening and I will be happy to explain it, Haley. Because an important step in the scientific method is to conduct the experiment and honestly report the actual results that you got. If we were to explain the results you were "supposed to get" instead of the actual results you got we would all be promoting those plagues known as "junk science" or "pseudoscience".
