"Silver plating"
Beginners should probably avoid silver plating. Virtually all silver plating is done from terribly poisonous cyanide-based solutions. Cyanide is not only poisonous to ingest, but accidentally acidifying cyanide solutions can release deadly hydrogen cyanide gas into the air.
If you can find a proprietary silver plating solution which is not based on cyanide it may be safe to use as directed, but the color will likely not be perfect if you need to match other silver plating. Plus dissolved silver is an extremely powerful biocide, posing an environmental danger. Finally, if you experiment, mixing other materials with silver plating solutions, you raise the possibility of producing explosive silver fulminates. It's best to learn plating with other materials, probably bright acid copper.
