GUESTBOOK, Class of 1972

Oct 18, 2002

I didn't get to graduate in 1972, instead, my family left at the end of the 7th grade in 1971 to move to N.Kentucky, where I still reside.

I lived above Caruso's market on 4th Ave. My step-dad was Robert Collins who went to OLAS as well (I'm not sure what year he graduated) and my biological dad was Herbert Findlay, he lived at 162 4th Ave. Other family members include Ruth Ann Findlay, Joanne Schwartz, David Schwartz, Billy (Moggie)Schwartz, Herbie Findlay, Dottie Findlay, Linda MacVicker and John MacVicker.

I still fondly remember all of my classmates at OLAS and you can imagine the culture shock I experienced when we transferred here and I began Public School! I would love to hear from my good friends Kathy Scioscia and Judy Sax. I will never forget Ralph Visco and James Marinello's portrayal of Laurel and Hardy, that was excellent!

Some of my teachers included Sister Ann, Mrs. Davenport (she was my favorite), Sister Eleanor Joseph, Mr. Zarra and Sister Theresa. They were strict, but what a wonderful education we received!

I would love to hear from anyone, so please email me!

Circa 1972, the fall & winter winds begin to settle in with light snow falling around Our Lady Of All Souls. You and I begin to walk home with our school friends on 4th Avenue and Grove Street and discuss the day's activities.

I attended 7th and 8th grade at OLAS on 1971 and 1972. Prior to OLAS I had lived & traveled with my father a UN diplomat through out Europe & South America. My previous schools had very high tough academic standards in comparison to OLAS, which was relatively easy. All of my pre-OLAS younger life was traveling from country to country and school to school. I was happy to settle down at OLAS and gain some stability although at the expense of my Dad not being around my life for many years to come.

31 years ago I remember almost all of you including the drama and comedy we all participated in class. I have provided the OLAS site manager Ted Mooney with a clean copy of a photo of the class of June 1972.

M. Pavone, J. Marinello, R. Visco were always in charge of the audio/video and theater productions. Fred Steeb was a drummer. Anne Camisa had the best graduation party at her house. Barbara Perez was a great dancer she loved David Cassidy then (I hope she does not scold me for saying that). Jean Duffy & I dated for a week, we were so young then. I had a crush on Kathy O' Brien and later on a pretty lady from 7th grade named Patty Walsh. I always wanted to have the opportunity get know Patty's mind and ideas. I believe she wanted to be a singer and was very eclectic & poetic last time I met 20 years ago. Patty hope you are happy & well!

It's been 31 years ago today and if it was not for some nostalgic feelings of lives & times of the 70s, I would of never found this site. Were all of you bright minds from 1972? Would love to hear from any one soon. I love you all! Hoping that all of you have been blessed with wonderful years. Hope we can meet someday and rejoice our past. From the photo the class of 1972 from top left to right is: Alvaro Vallecilla (me) Judy Saxe, Patricia Ostrowski, Cathy Persall, Anne Camisa, Judy Caslow, Jean Duffy, Fred Steed, C. White, Valerie Riley, Barbara Perez, M. Sindab, C. Donaldson. Robert Visco, Robert Whiting, S. Windfield, Cathy O' Brien, David Pigott, John Hargadon, J. Hoff, M. Johnston, F. Lopez, S. Dabney, John Marinello, Joe Byrne, Robert Mack, Lion Moss, M. Pavone. I don't remember some of the first names could you use your help.

Here is more that I just remembered about, it was Claire Pearsall, Joseph Hoff and Craig White. Don't ask me how I can remember these names because I can't even get my own kids names straight half the time! To answer your other question, no, right now I do not have a scanner. To tell you the truth, I just got this computer this past summer. Was Kathy Scioscia in your photo? I found her because of the OLAS website. I think it's strange that more people from our class have not found it yet. Maybe you can be the catalyst since it seems you had friendships with alot of them outside of school. I do recall finding James Marinello and Ralph Visco's names on Classmates.com. I think they went to Essex Co. High School. Keep me in mind if you ever contact any of them, ok?

HThe above message was a courtesy of Susan Collins. Susan, I would guess that we may have to look at classmates.com and locate some of our 1972 classmates and bring them to OLAS site so that we may bring old memories back. Perhaps if we get enough people we could attempt the first reunion. No I did not find Kathy Scioscia in the 1972 graduation pictures. However, her name sounds very familiar.

I decided to go to the website for Our Lady Of All Souls and I found the class of 1972. I would of graduated with the class but my family moved. I only attended All Souls for 1/2 of 6th grade with Mr. Zarra and 1/2 of 7th with Sr. Anne. My family then moved. I would love to hear from Barbara Perez who was my best friend before I moved. I am now married with 2 children and live in South Jersey. I would love to hear from someone. I pulled up the class photo and cried because I could of been in that picture also. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Hey, Sally! Good to hear from you. I don't know if you remember me, but I do remember you. I have a picture of our 7th grade class and you are in it. I will have to get it on this website one of these days. I live in Kentucky now, and all my OLAS pictures are in New Jersey, so hopefully, the next time I visit, I will remember to get them. I have 4 children, 1 6-year old grandson and a granddaughter on the way July 15th. Hope everything is good with you! Keep us posted!

It's been a long time ! I attended OLAS form K-8 (nine years). I remember when Alvaro first came to our school, Ann Camisa working at the cleaners on 4th Avenue, and Susan Finley being at OLAS. Does anyone remember Timothy Weiss he was in our class until he moved, well he's the Fire Chief in the City of East Orange now. I heard that Both Judy Caslow and Michelle Sinbad-Blocker are both nurses. Valerie Riely is a lawyer and Daniel Pigott works for Ford Motors.

Does anyone remember the All Souls-Vikings or Hotdog Day ?

I ran into our 8th grade teacher Ms Lewindowski, working at Columbian school (years ago) when I was sub/teaching ther she remembered me and was gld to see me. I also ran into Sister Theresa, she is no longer a nun, she's just a regular teacher working in the EO school public schoool district. I also ran in to Craig White, he's married with 2 or 3 kids and was managing a McDonalds. Has anyone seen Felix Lopez or Stanley Dabney ?

Well hello Sally, Anne and Leon, I am glad we are getting more OLAS folks vesting the 1972 class. I remember Barbara Perez very well, she invited to her home on Grove Street across Park Ave to play all her favorite music and show me her favorite posters and photos of her dream guys, most which were celebrities.

Anne, I did not know you started working at an early age according Leon's post. Well work is always a good thing. I remember our 8th grade graduation party at your house it was unique, out of the ordinary and a lot of fun for me. Do you remember all the details?

Leon, was Ms Lewindowski the teacher that was very strict and heavy into math? I can see Judy Caslow and Michelle Sinbad as nurses because they were mellow and easy going ladies that have an aptitude to help people. I think Valerie Riely was a more serious assertive type maybe aggressive too; maybe that is why she is an attorney. Leon, Anne if you see any one of those folks again tell them to joint our site so that we can eventually have a reunion and meet.

For me most of you guys know that I move from NJ to Arizona but, I visit Jersey every six months, so I would love to get together with you guys. If any wants to call me my number is 480-219-8757 I don't bite!

Hi, Leon. I remember you, too. Of course, to me, you are still 13 years old!

I remember hot dog day. I believe if you look on this website you will find a thread that talks about that. I don't remember the Vikings, tho, what was that?

I was just in Jersey in Sept. Of course, as usual, we had to drive by the school and Caruso's market. It was a scary experience, let me tell you! Then we ate at Jimmy Buff's and that was also pretty frightening (yet greasy and good). I wish those girls you mentioned would find this site, as well as Judy Saxe and Cheryl Donaldson. I really like them. If you see anyone, let them know about it. I won't see them here in Kentucky, so I will have to leave it up to you.

Where do you work now? I work for the phone co., Cincinnati Bell. Oh, and as for Felix Lopez, I believe his sister Rowena can be found on this site. They used to be my next door neighbors. Take it easy!

I have some sad news about our former classmate Joseph Hoff, after reading the following story in the newspaper: Jury convicts E. Orange man of reckless manslaughter

Saturday, December 11, 2004
BY GUY STERLING Star-Ledger Staff
A jury in Newark yesterday convicted an East Orange man of reckless manslaughter in the death of a former IRS accountant last year.
The panel of six men and six women deliberated seven hours over two days before finding Eugene Wilson, 49, guilty in the beating death of Joseph Hoff at the entrance to an East Orange park. The jury also convicted Wilson of theft. Two witnesses to the late-afternoon confrontation near Rowley Park on June 19, 2003, testified that Wilson rifled through the pockets of Hoff, 44, after knocking him down. Authorities said Wilson kicked Hoff when he was on the ground as well.
A graduate of William Paterson College with a degree in accounting, Hoff died the next day. In addition to the IRS, he'd also worked for a bank.
The regional medical examiner testified that Hoff died of blunt force trauma from a number of blows to the head.

I was swimming this morning and for some reason I started thinking about East Orange so I thought to pull OLAS up on the computor and here I am. It is great to read about everyone and to hear were you all are living, working, married, children, etc. I am currently living in Randolph,NJ, married 30 years and have a 27 year old son. Very sad news about Hoff. Alvaro I read some of your notes regarding the parties at my house, it is amazing that nothing bad happened to any of us. I am most amazed on all of your memories.I often think about the past and I have to say my best memories are from EO and too bad it turned so bad. I don't even think the school is still there or the church. I hope all is well with everyone.

Jack is married and living in NJ, Pat is married and living 20 minutes outside DC, Billy is married and living in Fla. and James,,, Married and living in NJ with a 2year old daughter.

Hi Susan,

You don't know me, but I also lived above Caruso's Market and your step dad lived upstairs. His mother was my mother's best friend. I used to have a crush on your step dad when I was just a little girl.

I remember when you moved away, but we had already moved to 16th. street, I think.

You may remember my younger sister, Betsy.

It was good to see your post here, it brought back some fond memories.

My sister Katy just e-mailed me about this site. What a kick. I did not graduate from OLA, moved in fifth grade to Union. My memories revolve around "Hot Dog Day", a hard top play ground where any minor fall resulted in a mean looking knee scrape. I remember laughing at everything Leon Moss said. I think J. Brynes lived around the corner from my family in Bloomfield on Waldo avenue.
I just ran into Judy Caslow 2 weeks ago. Our families still have bungalows in Belmar. Living at the beach and loving it

The two Judys are here, together, checking out this site! We are wondering what went on at those parties we were not invited to?! This was a nice surprise to see many of our classmates catching up. Perhaps it would be fun to get together for a reunion! We are glad to see something like this going on for the good memories of OLAS- class of 1972! Judy Caslow and Judi Saxel

Greetings to all my OLAS friends. Like Leon, I also attended OLAS from K-8 as did my brothers Darryl ('73) and Greg ('77). I practiced law for 15 years and then married a great guy and we have two sons. We live in Virginia outside of DC. I remember walking to EOCH with Michelle, hanging out with Cathy, Patty, Barbara ... too many memories to recount.

Glad to hear that Judi 1 & 2 are well. Shout out to Patty.
Keep in touch.
