GUESTBOOK, Class of 1956

Nov. 18, 2001

I have been married forty years to Bob Gauli. I have four children and twelve grandchildren. I graduated from Upsala College in 1970 and Rutgers University with an MBA in 1979.

I worked for the Bell System after getting my MBA and am now retired and live in the Pocono Mountains on a lake with by husband Bob, who is also retired. I would like to hear from other members of OLAS class of 1956.

Graduated OLAS in '56 and was a member of the Class of '60 at Immaculate. I married, had 2 children (Michael and Sheila who have given me 3 grandchildren), then divorced after 22 years. I have been living in West Orange for 30 years. For the last 6 years I have been employed as a secretary at the courthouse in Newark.

Looking for Johnny DeTore

Dec 25, 2002

I used to live at 339 N. Grove St - from the mid-40's until the summer of 1950. Our family then moved to Ohio - so I did not graduate from OLAS in 1956 - but would have if we had stayed in East Orange. Johnny DeTore lived next door - on the corner. Appreciate any help in finding Johnny.

Also remember a girl named Dorothy who I seem to remember lived further up N. Grove St.

PAUL, I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU WOULD FIND JOHN DETORE BUT I BELIEVE HIS BROTHER BOB IS THE MAYOR OF VERONA, NEW JERSEY.

YES, DOROTHY CASSAZZA DID LIVE ON GROVE STREET BETWEEN 4TH AVE AND SPRINGDALE AVENUE.

Thanks, Mary Ellen. It is cool to find some of my earliest friends after all these years. The coincidences are amazing. In the kindergarten class picture for 1947 (8th Grade class of 1956) - my kids and I think we found me. The second row, third seated from the right, left hand covering the lower right part of his face. Now if you know that boy by a different name - I'll have to look harder.

By the way, that picture (on the OLAS website) of the policeman at the corner of Grove & 4th Sts. Turns out he used to come to our house every Sunday morning for coffee (and a bite) - asked my mom and dad if they can remember his name - will forward when I find out. You can see the Detore's white house on the corner. The dark house next to the Detore's was where we lived - on the first floor. The Buckmans, owners of the house, lived on the 2nd floor. A widow lady lived on the 3rd floor. Next to our house was where the Sutfins lived - parents on 2nd floor, the son and his family on the 1st floor.

I better shut up before I wear out my welcome. Thanks again.

Happy New Year,
Paul

I too wish to thank Mary Ellen for sharing the Toast of the Town. Maybe she and others in that class can help identify the kids in the kindergarten photo I submitted. Jimmy is holding the triangle in the front row. I think Dottie Cassazza may be at the far right first chair and Roger Riggs at the far left sitting on the last chair. Is Johnny Detour standing in the last row first on the right? Is that Micheal Foley, first row second girl right from Jim? Love to know more of who is in that picture.

Dear Mary Ellen,
My husband, Jim, graduated from All Souls in 1949 but I (Carol Appell Murray) graduated from Columbian the same year. We both graduated from Scott in 1953 and are having our 50th high school reunion this coming Oct. We are trying to locate our classmates and a missing one is Richard Riggs. I saw your graduation picture and list of names. Richard's brother Roger was among them. If we could find Roger, maybe he could lead us to Richard. Do you have any information about Roger? Thank's a lot from the traitor across the Columbian playground.

Hi:

My name is Robert George and I am in the photo titled " Jimmy's Kindergarten Class 1947". However, the photo was taken at the nearby public "Columbian Grammar School". The teacher was "Miss Staff". I don't remember "Jimmy", who probably transferred to All Souls later, but I do remember several others in the photo.

Wow, you never know what you will find on the internet!

Come to think of it, that room doesn't look like any room I remember at All Souls.

I am an old high school friend of Roger Riggs. I would like to know what happened to him. I am told he passed away, but I do not have any details about his death. Please respond.

Thanks

My brother Jim Robinson and Roger Riggs were good friends and he tried to find Roger for years. Jim's other friend Tony may have some updated information. I'll reach out to him and see if he knows if Roger passed away.
To the other post about the kindergarten classroom, you are right, K-garten was not at All Souls, I am guessing it was at Columbian. 1st grade, Jimmy would have switched over to OLAS where he graduated and then went to Clifford Scott.

Just discovered this site. My name is Theresa Luciano. My two brothers and I lived at 199 N. 19th St. Would love to hear from the old neighborhood.
