-----Double Chrome
We have been told of a finish called "Double Chrome". We run an electroplating shop but have never heard of it. Do you know what it is?

Just a theory, but . . .
Since 'triple chrome plate' is apparently a Madison Avenue term for semi-bright nickel, bright nickel, chrome, then double chrome probably means a less expensive finish that lacks the semi-bright nickel.

Hi,
Double chrome is a plating process where the process is stopped half way through, and then started again from the beginning. The advantage being that the second time the process starts you achieve an overlay of the chrome plate already adhered to the product which results in a finish that is more resistant to penetration of humidity and will give superior results when salt spray tests are carried out for the same layer thickness applied in one go.

Thank you, John. Is there any published literature on this process?

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
