What is the Difference Between Electro Nickel Plating and Electroless Nickel Plating

Hi There:

I have a simple and general question. What is the difference between electro nickel plating and electroless nickel plating? Is it necessary that a copper layer has to be on the substrate first if I like to plate ferrite material, such as soft steel and particle material?
