-----Plating the Inside of 4130 Tubing for Rust Prevention
2001
I am in search of a low cost solution to plate the inside of 4130 tubing for corrosion resistance, particularly rust caused by outdoor use. The external surfaces are presently plated with a power coat process. As the equipment is used in moist climate areas visible signs of rust have caused customer concerns as well as reduced the quality appearance.
I'm told that electroplating with zinc phosphate is out of the question because of the change in polarity from outside to inside of the tube. I will go so far as to say the individual parts could be plated prior to assembly which is done by welding. Would the heat undo any benefits or would the total assembly need to be tanked? Total assembly is a 15" x 19" frame made from 1.5" x 1.5" tubing.

Michael,
You could purchase a I.D. Coating Applicator and use a high temp corrosive resistant coating.
Hope this helps.
