Aluminum Extrusion Surface Refinishing?

I am in need of information on equipment and techniques used in surface preparation of aluminum extrusions prior to anodizing. It seems that by the time I get my material through it's handling stages it needs refinishing prior to being clear anodized. Some directional grain is acceptable.

To clarify my request, I am mainly looking for "mechanical" refinishing equipment and techniques.

Any information at all would be appreciated.
