Titanium coating on titanium
Q. I have a titanium shape that includes curves and straight segments with very smooth surface (High end EDM). I am trying to build up the surface with say 20 to 30 microns of Titanium. It is critical to have a very uniform thickness so that the original shape is maintained precisely to better than 0.5 micron uniformity of the coated thickness. In other words suppose we have a cylinder shape and we desire to build up 20 microns, then the thickness of the highest peak vs the lowest valley should be no more than than 0.5 micron. This 0.5 micron max deviation should also apply to the ends of the cylinder. Is it possible to build up Titanium on Titanium? what process (if any) can accomplish what I desire? also if you know US companies that can do so, please suggest names. Thanks in advance to all responding

A. It should be possible by PVD techniques where coating is conformal. It would be economical if volumes are large.
