Emmy is corroding and flaking

Q. I have an Emmy (just a regional one) that I won in 2019. It seems to be corroding or flaking. I don't handle it very often. Methods for cleaning it is a feather duster or a lens/glasses cloth, though I admit I probably forget to clean too much.

Over the last couple of years, it has begun to corrode or flake and I'm not sure why. My friends who have won an Emmy around the same time (even in the same nomination/year) don't have this problem and one of them keeps the Emmy at our main work office, so it gets handled a lot.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong here that's causing this and is there a way to fix this?

Thanks!
