Detecting & Repairing Scratches in Ni Plated Al6061

Q. Hi, I have an Al6061 with electroless Ni plating per ASTM B733-04, Type II, SC1, Class 1. We have noticed scratches on the finish after some handling by our technicians. We are not sure were along the way the scratches occurred.

1. Is there an easy way to detect if the scratches expose the underlying Aluminum vs. being only a surface level scratch to the Nickel plating?

2. Are there any recommended touch up options if the scratches go down to the Aluminum? Ideas we are considering are Iridite (better cosmetic, less robust than EN plating), Super Koropon (poor cosmetic, good protection of Al), and selective Ni plating (good cosmetic, poor thickness control)
