Putting plastisol on zinc plated parts

Q. My question is, what is the procedure for curing plastisol on zinc plated & chromate/passivated parts? My concern is heat during curing destroying the chromate.

zinc plating plus plastisol

For example where plastisol is used on handles for tools or levers on latches, etc.

A. Hi Joshua

Zinc phosphatization or zinc plating plus zinc phosphating is probably a better base for plastisol than zinc plating plus chromating, but I can see that this may not be practical for the case at hand. A primer is required before plastisol in any case.

I think zinc plating plus chromating, with a 24 hour cure time, followed by priming followed by plastisol and baking should work okay. There are "air dry" plastisols but they probably are not quite as good as oven-cured versions. Luck & Regards,
