Lead plating of umbrella wires/tubes

Q. Hi sir can you please explain why the steel wires are lead coated? We are nickel plating umbrella tubes currently and would be interested if this helps us reduce our costs. Thanks in advance

A. Hi Vedant.

Steel wire would be lead plated when the special properties of lead are desired. Lead plating is never done as a cost reduction measure.

Deliberately plating a consumer item with lead would be a big mistake. If nickel is too expensive for you, what some people have done is bright zinc plating, which can be followed by clear coating if you wish. Luck & Regards,
