TiCN stripping from D2 base metal

Q. Hello,

I would need some help regarding stripping process of TiCN from D2 base metal. I did not mannage to find answer deep diving into finishing.com, so I decided to ask for help.

My situation:
For a while a company I work at used TiN coatings on stamping dies wear parts.
After wear occurred, TiN was easy to remove with H2O2+NaOH solution, part was re-worked and send to PVD TiN coating.
Then the company switched to TiCN coating due to increased durability.
The problem I am now facing is inability to strip TiCN coating and external service must be used- meaning we'd need to increase the stock of over 6300 coated tool parts to cover the 3rd party de-coating period. This would cost a lot.
Therefor I kindly ask you to advise on stripping TiCN from D2 base metal.

So far I tried what wotked for me on TiN coated D2:
- H2O2+NaOH based mixtures at room temperature and 40-50 °C

Then I concluded TiCN can not be stripped using same solution - is this assumption correct?

I am planning to try:
- HNO3 + HF(+HCl) solution, which honestly I would like to avoid
- KMnO4 + NaOH
- HNO3 + H2O2

Any help is greatly appreciated.
