Removing discoloration patches from nickel plated brass

Q. Sir,

We have Brass - Nickel plated Cable glands ,
Due to flood water effect , all over the cable gland outside there are multiple smoky patches .
Pls. help us what solvent is auitable for removing those patches .

A. Hi Mahapatra,
Although it will be labor intensive, I think polishing with metal polish is the right thing to do. This will also afford the opportunity for 100% inspection, which seems appropriate after damage from flooding whereby some of the parts presumably suffered only superficial damage and others rather severe damage.
