Q. HI
I WANTED TO FIGURE OUT THE SALTS AND OTHER AGENTS THAT CAN BE USED TO MAKE A SOLUTION FOR ELECTRODEPOSITION OF NICKEL CHROMIUM COATINGS WITH CHROMIUM CONTENT OF LESS THAN 8 WEIGHT PERCENT. HAS ANYONE WORKED ON SUCH COATINGS? KINDLY HELP ME OUT.

A. Hi MOHAMAD SAQIB.
That is not an easy one :-)
• "Electrodeposition of Alloys" by Brenner (dated 1963) does not seem to acknowledge any nickel-chromium alloys, and mentions that only very sketchy reports of chromium-nickel alloys are available, and notes that well known researchers were unsuccessful in trying to duplicate the reported results.

• "The Properties of Electrodeposited Metals and Alloys by Safranek (dated 1986) has one page on the subject, relating a technical conference presentation by Lashmore, Wisehauss, & Pratt, "Electrodeposition of Nickel-Chromium Alloys" (AES Research Project 58) as Session P of the Proceedings of Technical Conference, American Electroplaters Society, 1985, where success was reported with pulse plating.
I attended a presentation by David Lashmore some time later where he seemed to say that this was not actually an electrodeposited alloy, but more of a many layer sandwich where a microlayer of nickel was deposited, then a microlayer of chrome, then a microlayer of nickel, etc.
