How to reduce high zinc content in Socosurf
Q. We are a chemical treatments company for the Aerospace industry. We have a tank of Socosurf (approx. 3750 litres) which is showing high level of zinc content; it is within specification limits but we would like to remove the zinc before it reaches the top limit.
We do not wish to discard the solution and replace as it would not be cost effective.
Please can you advise a method of removing the zinc

A. Hi Julie. Socosurf seems not to be a specific product, but a company which offers a number of aluminum treatment processes; but their specialty seems to be desmut/de-ox baths for aluminum, so I assume that the problem that you are speaking of a desmut/deoxidizer for high zinc aluminum alloys that is near exhaustion because of it's high zinc content?
If so, these baths seem to be a combination of three different maintenance ingredients, maybe more, and perhaps Socosurf can advise if there is a practical way to remove the zinc without compromising the desmut/de-ox.
