Masking for Decorative Chrome Plating

November 29, 2014

Q. Hello,

I have two motorcycle wheels that I'm sending out for decorative chrome plating. It is extremely hard to remove the plating build up in the bearing receiver bores without removing aluminum. The plating company does an excellent job of polishing and plating but they will not mask the bores. They recommended Stop Off Lacquer MICCROSTOP. I have a problem with paying $83.00 for a gallon of MICCROSTOP so I'm looking for another absolute solution.

Now it is your turn.

Thanks.

A. Plug the bores tight with a piece of plastic, rubber or plastic wrapped wood.

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
