Reinforcing brass bearings with alumina for wear resistance

January 22, 2014

Q. Hi,
I am a final year BE-mechanical student. I am doing project in alloy materials. I would like to increase the wear resistance of floating bearing which is made of Brass (Cu+45% Zn). I chose alumina as newly introduced material with the method of Stir casting. Will it reinforce with Brass? Will it increase the wear resistance?

Suggest the material which will reinforce with brass efficiently to increase the wear resistance of floating bearing (Brass)?. The micron level of efficient reinforcement between brass and aluminium?
Thank you.
