Can we pretreat steel for phosphating in an aluminum anodizing line?

December 5, 2013

Q. Hi Tom,
I am dealing with hard anodizing, the pre treatment are hot water cleaning, alkaline cleaning, NaoH etching and deoxidising, can I use same pretreatment baths before phosphating of steel parts?

Aijazullah Tajir

A. Probably not. To preclean steel you'll likely need a more aggressive cleaner than for Al, and you'll likely need HCl acid step.
