Chemical stripping then solution analysis to determine heavy metals in plating layers

July 22, 2013

Q. I hope you guys can help me with an analytical task.

I need to strip plated layers from substrates to determine the presence and concentration of certain heavy metals. I can only do this chemically. The solution I use should be of analytical grade, so it is unlikely to be a proprietary mix.

Specifically the task requires stripping the following plated layers:
tin from brass substrate
solder from copper substrate
tin from steel
tin from copper

I have ICP-OES available to analyse the solutions.

Thanks,
Matthew
