Blistering of Zinc Plated surfaces during Alkaline Degreasing

June 12, 2013

Q. We are getting white blisters on the Zinc Plated components when they are subjected to go through Alkaline Degreasing process along with other normal MS Sheet. What is the reason and how we can avoid this defect?

A. Hi Arijit. I'm not sure that "defect" is the right word. Zinc plating and its chromating are not resistant to strong alkalies. So I'm not sure that the process itself is at all acceptable -- but if you can detail it a little more fully, maybe the readers can help. Good luck.
