How to heat treat metal to a black or yellow color

Q. Hi!
I wonder how to get the colors black or yellow at the "finishing stage" on heat treated metals?
I have metals that are quenched in oil or "atmosphere".
It could be great if I don't have to "paint" them after the heat treatment is finished!
