-----Experience with Brown dye in Anodizing?
November 6, 2012
Q. Does anyone have experience with using brown dye with Type II Anodizing?
I am thinking of running some parts and dying them using the Brown GL dye that US Specialty carries. I have heard that it is a very difficult color to replicate.
Any opinions.

A. Hi Jon.
We don't comment on particular brands and proprietaries, but it would seem to me that for a highly saturated color like brown, that you need a thick anodized layer, at least .0005", and very consistent, as well as good control of the dye and the seal. Good luck.

A. Hi Jon,
Brown dyes are difficult to control. If you have sufficient demand for brown, consider using tin (stannous sulfate) based electrolytic coloring.
