Painted brass door knob is very bumpy

Q. I painted a brass door knob and came out very bumpy I washed it with dish soap dried it. Rubbed fine 00 steel wool

Amazon [affil link] pad on it primed it with self etching primer and let dry then painted with glossy black Rustoleum paint. When dried, it's very bumpy. How do I fit it to be smooth?
