Black Oxide Problem

We are experiencing problems when we blacken heat treated polished steel parts. The parts have red or green discoloration . What could the cause be? could it be the polish? or porosity? How can we get rid of the discoloration?

Hello:

Your color changes are most likely caused by your temperature being to high. Dry down of the parts coming out of the black oxide prior to rinsing is also something to look into and possibly the parts have buffing compounds that were not thoroughly removed. We would be happy to further discuss your problem.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
