Treatment of high TDS water from manufacturing of PPT silica

October 5, 2012

Q. We are into manufacturing of precipitated silica using HCl, sulfuric acid and sodium silicate as raw materials. The waste water generated during the washing process has an average TDS of around 7500 ppm. This stream can be separated into 2 streams with say around 20% having TDS of 60000 ppm and balance having TDS of around 4000 ppm. Since its a byproduct from silica manufacturing, silica as an impurity may also be present.

We are looking for a system design wherein we can achieve zero discharge of water, and the solid waste generated can be disposed in landfill.

The design could be a combination of equipments, system etc. Input raw water has TDS of 800 ppm.

Please help us towards a solution.
