Desert Environment & Zinc Plated Nuts and Bolts

Q. We have been challenged with providing data on the service life of Zinc Plated Nuts and Bolt hardware in an Arizona Desert Environment. Do you have thoughts or supporting data for us to review?

A. Sir:

Personally I prefer hot dip galvanized bolts and nuts for any outside environment. In zinc plating the zinc thickness is just not thick enough for me.

You may be able to determine service life for zinc electroplate by putting American Galvanizers Association and then zinc plating onto Google.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
